Our TLC Creed:

1. Families are the basic unit of society and ordained of God with the primary responsibility of educating their children.

2. We have God-given agency and no conscience should be forced; therefore we believe that only the learner can educate themselves–that their desire will fuel their education.

3. We believe in honoring the natural phases of learning.

5. We believe that the example of parent’s engaging in self-education is vital.

6. True principles are to be sought and applied.

7. We believe in using the art and principles of inspired mentoring.

8. We believe in using Classics, encouraging critical thinking skills, and challenging assumptions.  We want to cultivate a community with members that think for themselves.

9. In order for our TLC community to thrive, we expect all our families to take ownership of their roles by applying principles of servant leadership.

What Does "Liber" Mean?

"Liber" is a Latin word for tree bark. It is also the root word of "library" and "liberty," revealing the relationship between knowledge and freedom.

In the ancient world, tree bark was used to write upon, and there were generally two groups of people: slaves and liber. To be "liber" meant that one could read, write, and engage in contracts.

"Liber" means much more than mere literacy-- it means that you have the ability to think, learn, and lead. It means being able to engage with the greatest thinkers, respond intelligently, and practically apply knowledge to improve the world.

From the basic outline of "The Four Lost American Ideals: Georgics, Liber, Providence, Public Virtue with Freedom being the 5th ideal not lost... yet" by Dr. Shannon Brooks and Oliver DeMille.
