Class Description:

Welcome to LORD OF THE FLIES MEETS LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE!

This Georgics class is going to be an epic and interactive experience, focusing on the principles of entrepreneurialism, self-validation, service, and community. They will build their confidence as they ‘get comfortable with being uncomfortable’ through developing their own talents, taking initiative in sims, serving their communities, participating in discussions, and marketing their own product or service.

Pyramid Project

(Age range 11* - 13+)

Fall Semester: 13+ (Kids that took Sword of Freedom and Hero or Quest Unleashed last year or older)

Spring Semester: 11* - 13 (Kids that took Key of Liberty last year)

Class Description:

Earth is in her final days. The countries of the world have put aside their differences to focus on preserving life. Among the different Earth bound projects, they have decided to do an experiment. 3 planets within 12 lightyears have been selected for colonization, if we can get it right. Each ship will be made of different crews; one will be made of adults with the finest education; one will be made of older teens; and the last will be made of younger teens. The mission will be a search for truth. We will discover truths about Earth as well as your assigned world. As we discover these truths, we will be able to change things in the world as well as in ourselves. We will focus on two ways to discover truth, science and philosophy. One this journey, we will learn how to take and organize notes, creates plans, manage time and develop self discipline.

Quest 3

Worldviews, Principles of Freedom, Jurisprudence

Age Range: 16+

Class Description:

Our teens are inundated with information from every direction, all communicating their own worldviews. When they have a clear understanding of worldviews, both in the world and in their own lives, they are much more able to be confident and firm in their convictions. As they learn the history and the processes of the Supreme Court, they recognize the long-term effects of policy decisions. They are better prepared to apply the characteristics of a statesman as they get involved in the public square. Quest 3 can help them get ready to face and engage with the world!

Beyond Personal Finance

Ages 12+

Class Description:

Beyond Personal Finance is a choice-based, interactive course that immerses you into your future by letting you experience age 22-44 for yourself through personal choices and budgets. Choices involving college, career, cars, apartments, spouses, houses and investments will keep you on your toes and show you how each will impact your future. Join us for this fun and engaging personal finance experience.

Beyond Belief:

Becoming Confident and Powerful Youth

Class Description:

Have you ever felt stressed and stuck? How about depressed and frustrated? Have you ever wanted to be able to just shift that and step into a confident, more powerful space? Beyond Belief will teach you to spot and transform the paradigms that keep you stuck, one limiting belief at a time. Using principles of cognitive behavioral therapy, you will learn to both facilitate and self-facilitate Belief Breakthrough, a simple (but not always easy) way to re-align yourself with the greatness that is you.

Performing Arts

Class Description:

Join us for this exciting class exploring dance, music and theater! We will learn many different syles of dance, master a student-chosen choir piece and have engaging theater workshops. If you love group activities or performing, you will love this class.

Student Council:

Student council is open to any scholar who wishes to participate in TLC more than just attending the classes and events. These scholars will gather occasionally during the last hour of TLC on Thursdays to organize clubs, devotionals, social and academic events. They will elect a Council President and VP, learn about and use the parliamentary procedure, plan and execute events for the TLC community.

A Shakespeare Play (TBD) All the world’s a stage,

Class Description:

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts, (As You Like it)

To do a Shakespearan play is to understand humanity more. During this class, we will dive into a Shakespearan play and to become the different characters. We will embrace the Shakespearan language, possible add a different theme and learn his jokes to bring our audience. We also learn the normal drama stuff (staging, projecting, character development, etc)

A student-directed and
student-produced play (TBD)

Class Description:

A student director and student producer will receive mentoring in how to take a script and turn it into a production on stage. Mentors will guide them through the artist process as well as planning the logistics. These students will work together to make their vision a reality through synergy with each other, other students and the parents. The student director focus will be more on the actors whereas the producer focus is more on the logistics on how to make it happen (oversee set, props, stage management, lights and sound, etc). Those interested in student directing and student producing need to contact Nichol at nicholtate@gmail.com. An interview process will occur to choose the director and producer.

The other students will audition to the directing crew (student director and mentor, possible more) to receive their roles in February.
